The Moose Cree First Nation Resource Protection – OPG partnership environment team is pleased to announce that we will be inviting 2 to 4 youth to go on a trip to the North French River and Lower Mattagami Complex during October 2019. Our environment team and the Wildlife Conservation Society Canada (WCSC) are working together on a Lake Sturgeon Project. This project tracks and monitors sturgeon using traditional knowledge and western science to better understand the impacts of hydroelectric dams on our rivers, creeks, and fish.
Where you’ll be going, study sites:
Site 1: Lower Mattagami Complex – a set of four dams are located 70 Kilometre northeast of Kapuskasing and about 150 kilometres upstream of Moose Factory.
Site 2: North French River – located approximately 70 kilometres north of the town Cochrane and flows into the Moose River, approximately 30 kilometres upstream from Moose Factory.
When you’ll be going:
- Tentatively set for October 2019
- Two nights camping at each study site location
