About this book
“Storytelling Long Ago Amongst the Moose Cree is a collection of 56 folktales and stories gathered over a period of one hundred years at Moose Factory. Compiled by Dr. Kevin Brousseau and published for the first time in a single volume by Moose Cree First Nation, these stories are presented faithfully in Cree as told by the storytellers themselves. Storytellers include the late Harvey Smallboy, William Allan, Patrick Stephen, Joseph Trapper, Frank Rickard, and Herbert McLeod. Their stories were carefully transcribed over a period of 6 years from their original handwritten manuscripts or, in the case of Herbert McLeod’s stories, from audio recordings. Accompanied by 20 illustrations by Melissa Sanderson of Mosakahiken Cree Nation, this book is a cultural treasure that is sure to please young and old alike.”
